Information and support
Volunteers of Information and Support of COC Rotterdam answer all your questions about homosexuality.
If you want to talk to one of our volunteers you can make an appointment by calling 010-4141555 (Monday-Friday from 14 till 16 hours) or send an email to advies@cocrotterdam.nl. You can also come to our pub evening every first Thursday of the month from 20 till 22 hours.
It is a big step for the first time to talk to someone about your same sex preference. Our volunteers, men and women, know from their own experience how this feels. Therefore we offer you the opportunity to talk freely and anonymously. Frequently asked questions are about: coming out, discrimination and mobbing, homosexuality in the work place, safe sex. We can help you find your way in a new life and we offer our support with your coming out. For Dutch speakers we organize selfhelp groups on coming out.
Our organisation, mission and activities
COC Rotterdam is a member of the Federation COC Nederland.
COC stands for “Cultureel Ontspannings Centrum”, this name originates from the past, when the word "homosexual" was not accepted. Therefore the association called itself "Cultural Recreation Centre". The Rotterdam branch was founded in 1947.
The mission of COC Rotterdam is to inform and educate, advise and serve the interests of lesbian women, gay men, bisexual men and women, and transgenders in Rotterdam and surroundings.
Since the general meeting in April 2011 we have a board consisting of three persons:
- Wilma Ruis, chairman (mrs.)
- Ben Groos, vice-chairman, secretary (mr.)
- Roland Nijssen, treasurer (mr.)
